Prime Minister and Interior Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, recently engaged in discussions with senior figures from the EU–ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) and the European Association for Business and Commerce (EABC). The focus of these talks was to explore avenues to enhance trade, investment, and economic collaboration between Thailand and the European Union.
The meeting saw participation from delegates representing over 40 prominent European firms, spanning various sectors including healthcare, finance, automotive, energy, technology, agriculture, tourism, and consumer goods. This diverse representation underscores the broad interest in fostering closer economic ties.
In addressing the delegation, Anutin emphasized the significant role of Europe as a strategic economic ally for Thailand. He detailed the government’s comprehensive strategy designed to bolster Thailand’s global competitiveness. Key elements of this strategy involve the advancement of digital, artificial intelligence, and clean energy infrastructures, alongside the enhancement of transport and logistics systems. Furthermore, the plan includes regulatory reforms aimed at improving the investment environment, coupled with Thailand’s ambition to accede to the OECD.
Additionally, the Thai government is keen on positioning the country as a pivotal regional hub for several high-growth industries. These include semiconductor manufacturing, clean energy, artificial intelligence, digital technology, life sciences, modern agriculture, and food production, reflecting a forward-looking economic vision.
Moreover, Thailand reiterated its dedication to finalizing negotiations on the Thailand–EU Free Trade Agreement. This agreement is anticipated to significantly enhance market access for Thai goods and broaden business opportunities with the European Union, reinforcing the economic ties between the two regions.
