Spain emerged victorious against England with a 3-2 win in their Nations League opener, marked by a decisive goal from Mikel Oyarzabal. The match, held with much anticipation, saw Spain capitalize on key moments to secure the win despite England’s strong performance.
The game began with Spain taking an early lead, courtesy of Lamine Yamal who took advantage of a defensive error by Marc Guéhi. However, England quickly found their rhythm, equalizing through Anthony Gordon before Harry Kane put them ahead just before the break.
England seemed poised to extend their lead in the 54th minute when they were awarded a penalty after Jude Bellingham was fouled in the box. Unfortunately for the hosts, Kane’s attempt hit the crossbar, leaving Spain within striking distance.
Spain seized the opportunity to level the score when substitute Álex Baena created space on the edge of the penalty area, finishing past England goalkeeper James Trafford. As the second half unfolded, Spain began to control more of the play.
Oyarzabal then delivered the crucial blow, calmly scoring from a Baena pass to give Spain the lead. Despite England’s relentless pursuit of an equalizer, Spain’s defense held firm, allowing them to clinch a hard-fought victory.
