Saudi Arabia and Serbia are strengthening their economic and diplomatic relations, aiming for enhanced cooperation across various sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, and trade. Recent discussions between the two nations have focused on collaborative energy initiatives, advancements in information and communications technology, and agricultural partnerships. Both countries are also looking to increase the presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market while encouraging more Saudi investments in Serbia.
A significant step forward in their diplomatic ties was marked by a meeting in Belgrade where Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric signed an agreement to waive visa requirements for diplomatic and official passport holders, thus facilitating easier official exchanges between the two countries. This agreement is expected to enhance bilateral interactions and foster closer ties.
Trade between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has witnessed substantial growth, with bilateral trade reaching $121 million in 2025, a sharp increase from 2012 levels. The momentum continued into 2026, with trade surging to $130.4 million in the first half, representing a 152% rise compared to the same period in the previous year. This rapid expansion in trade reflects the strengthening economic partnership between the two nations.
Looking ahead, the upcoming EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 in Riyadh are anticipated to create additional avenues for investment, business collaborations, and the sharing of expertise. Saudi Arabia has confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027 and plans to highlight its economic progress, innovations, culture, and investment prospects during the event. Meanwhile, Serbia is set to be represented at the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, with participation from more than 50 Serbian companies.
Both countries are also keen on exploring synergies in science and technology, paving the way for further collaborative efforts in these fields. This burgeoning partnership between Saudi Arabia and Serbia underscores their commitment to deepening ties and pursuing mutual benefits across various domains.
