In response to an uptick in Russian drone incursions, Moldova and Romania are enhancing their defense collaboration with Ukraine, focusing on developing domestic drones to effectively counter aerial threats. The situation intensified when at least five Russian drones entered Moldovan airspace on August 27, during Moldova’s National Day festivities. This event was marked by the presence of Moldovan President Maia Sandu, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Romanian President Nicusor Dan.
President Sandu characterized the drone incursions as a tactic to intimidate Moldova, underscoring that Russia’s ongoing conflict in Ukraine is increasingly impacting neighboring nations. In light of these developments, she emphasized the critical need for strengthened regional cooperation. Sandu committed to bolstering Moldova’s defense capabilities through increased investment and coordinated efforts with the country’s partners.
