No movie trailer has ever done what Spider-Man: Brand New Day just did — cross the one billion view mark. Released on March 17, the trailer for Tom Holland’s latest Marvel adventure achieved the historic feat within a mere four days. It is a milestone that no studio, franchise, or filmmaker had reached before.
The trailer’s first-day numbers were equally mind-blowing, with 718.6 million views recorded in 24 hours. That figure smashed the record previously set by Deadpool & Wolverine’s teaser, which earned 365 million views on Super Bowl weekend in 2024. Even Spider-Man: No Way Home’s wildly popular trailer — which had held the Spider-Man record at 355.5 million — couldn’t come close.
WaveMetrix data revealed that total views had climbed to 1.1 billion by Tuesday of the following week. The clip also outperformed the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer, which had set a gaming record of 475 million views in one day. For Brand New Day to surpass a cultural juggernaut like GTA VI illustrates how massive the Spider-Man audience truly is.
The film is a follow-up to No Way Home, the 2021 blockbuster that earned $1.9 billion globally. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Brand New Day stars Holland with co-stars including Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Mark Ruffalo, Jacob Batalon, and Jon Bernthal. It will release worldwide on July 31, including in India in six languages.
The story follows a post-spell Peter Parker who must redefine himself in a world where no one remembers him. Audiences have reacted emotionally, generating viral memes and alternate titles like “Spider-Man: Far from Okay.” With the first billion-view trailer under its belt, Brand New Day is already one of the most anticipated films of the decade.
